In the heart of Cloverland, along a street known as Botany Lane, a group of young men would turn their neighborhood into a name recognized throughout Southern hip-hop. They were more than a rap group. They were brothers, pioneers, and part of a generation that helped define Houston’s identity.

They were the Botany Boyz.

Emerging during the rise of Houston’s underground music scene, the Botany Boyz (HEAD, WILL-LEAN, C-NOTE, BIG DEZ, D-RED, 3RD, and R.I.P. BG GATOR) was and still is an essential part of the Screwed Up Click, a legendary movement led by DJ Screw that would forever change the sound of Southern music.

Through independent releases, unforgettable freestyles on DJ Screw personal mixtapes (Dubs) and their work with Big Shot Records, the Botany Boyz helped carry Cloverland’s name far beyond the streets where their story began. Albums like Smokin’ N’ Lean’n, Thought of Many Ways, and Forever Botany became chapters in a legacy built on authenticity, brotherhood, and an undeniable Houston sound.

But behind the music was a story much deeper than what the world heard on records.

A story of humble beginnings, ambition, sacrifice, loyalty, triumph, and the realities of building something that would outlive its creators.

Decades later, their influence remains woven into the fabric of Houston culture. From the music and the slabs to the language, lifestyle, and independent spirit that continue to inspire new generations, the legacy of Botany Lane lives on.
